Tourism numbers in Samoa for the Second Quarter of the current financial year are steady and have only increased by 1.8 per cent when compared to the same period in the previous financial year. As was the case last year, the increase was driven by minor growths for October and December with November again being the slow month achieving no growth in numbers Holiday and VFR (visiting friends and relatives) visitors contributed the most to the overall increase in terms of overall numbers as is the norm for the holiday season although the Business category achieved the most overall growth of 23 per cent driven largely by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) meeting that Samoa hosted in early December.
A New Zealand business group is in Nuku’alofa in Tonga with its eye on investing in the country. The delegation, led by New Zealand’s Ambassador for Pacific Economic Development, Shane Jones, is interested in the construction, health, education and tourism sectors. Radio Tonga reports the New Zealand High Commissioner Sarah Walsh saying the investors are looking to see the unique business opportunities that Tonga has to offer.
