HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SOLOMON STAR) ---- Private lawyer Billy Titiulu is Solomon Islands new Attorney General. His appointment became yesterday, enabling him to accompany Prime Minister Danny Philip for the first sitting of the night parliament. His appointment is yet to be officially announced but Mr Titiulu told the Solomon Star he’s the new Attorney General. “Yes, it is; I am the new attorney general,” Mr Titiulu told the Solomon Star. Mr Titiulu is co-owner of the private law firm Pacific Lawyers. “I’m looking forward to serving the new government during its term. It’s an exciting appointment,” he said. He is not new to the Attorney General’s chambers, having previously worked there as chief crown counsel there. With his new appointment, it means he will relinquish his association with Pacific Lawyers to his business partner Chris Hapa. “Yes, I will now leave the operations to my colleague Chris Hapa who will look after it,” he said. Mr Titiulu from Ulawa, Makira Province, started work as a lawyer in 1993 and has about 17 years of experience. He previously worked in the Public Solicitor office, as deputy chairman of Trade Dispute Panel, then as a company secretary and legal adviser to the former National Bank of Solomon Islands now BSP, before going into private practise in 2002. Mr Titiulu replaces Gabriel Suri, who got the job in 2008 when the last Dr Sikua Government came into power.
