SUVA, Fiji (FIJI SUN) ----- There is a need for collaboration in order for Government to be able to achieve the country’s Millennium Development Goals says Fiji’s Attorney- General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. He said this during the Millennium Development Goals Stand Up, Take Action launch at the Holiday Inn in Suva last night. “We need collaboration and it is not something that government cannot do alone. Collaboration between government, with the private sector, with NGO’s civil societies and also of course with the media,” Mr Sayed- Khaiyum said “This collaboration with Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) and the United Nations Millennium Campaign demonstrates the very fact. As we continuously said the media needs to be pro Fiji, in this particular instance. In order to achieve these goals we need to take a holistic approach.” “There are a lot of issues that may contribute to our lagging or our inability to achieve these demands but we need to have a holistic approach, if not, these goals will not be achieved.” Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) in collaboration with the United Nations facilitated the launch. Mr Sayed- Khaiyum congratulated PINA for their initiative. He also elaborated on the many plans by Government in its effort to achieve these goals. Some of the initiatives include a number of plans that target the poor, reproductive health that targets women and education for children. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the impacts of these initiatives by Government may not be realised tomorrow or next month but in the next few years.
