WELLINGTON, New Zealand (ABC) ----- A number of powerful aftershocks have rocked the city of Christchurch this morning, days after a devastating earthquake hit the city. New Zealand's Civil Defence said the biggest tremor measured 5.1 in magnitude. One resident described the main aftershock as very sharp and sudden and said it had “jolted the living daylights” out of her. Witnesses say the aftershock was the biggest to shake the city since Saturday's 7.1-magnitude earthquake. New Zealand Prime minister John Key has expressed concern that continuing aftershocks will take a psychological toll on already shaken Christchurch residents. There have more than 100 aftershocks since Saturday's earthquake, with some hitting a magnitude of 5.0. “It's very alarming that we continue to get these aftershocks, and so much that they continue to do damage, and continue to undermine the confidence of the people in the Christchurch region,” he said. “And that's really our major concern ... as quick as we're repairing things, further damage is taking place - and also just people feeling quite shell-shocked.”
