SUVA, Fiji (FIJI LIVE) ---- Fiji’s permanent secretary for Information, Sharon Smith-Johns has revealed the Public Emergency Regulation (PER) has been extended for another month. Smith-Johns told Fiji Live the PER is currently being reviewed by the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau which is done on a regular basis. “These are the normal procedures and standards that are followed by the government in the review process,” she said. Smith-Johns added she cannot say whether there will be any further extensions made to the PER in the coming months. The government last month announced the new Media Industry Development Decree effective from 28June 28. Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, while announcing the implementation of the new Media Decree had said the PER will remain in place for the next three months.
