MATA’UTU, Wallis and Futuna ---- A tropical cyclone alert has been issued for the French Pacific islands of Wallis and Futuna.
The Met Service in Nadi says a tropical depression has formed and is now about 360 northeast of Wallis.
The depression is moving west-southwest at a speed of eight knots.
The system is intensifying and is expected to develop into a tropical cyclone in 24 to 48 hours.
The forecasters say if this happens it may cause damaging gale force winds over Wallis.
