Eight French Polynesian assembly members replaced

The change follows a three-month stand-down period for the eight former ministers who served in the short-lived Gaston Flosse-led government formed after last February’s general election.

PAPE’ETE, FRENCH POLYNESIA ---- Eight members of the French Polynesian assembly have vacated their positions which they filled for eight members who had briefly become government members, reports Radio New Zealand International.

The change follows a three-month stand-down period for the eight former ministers who served in the short-lived Gaston Flosse-led government formed after last February’s general election.

When they had joined the executive, the quit their assembly seats and were replaced by the next eight politicians on their electoral list.

In the face of a no confidence motion in April, the ministers resigned but the treasury refused to pay them the three US$10,000 monthly salaries normally disbursed to former ministers.

The eight are now back in the assembly, with the eight replacing members forced to quit their seats. Among the former ministers are Antony Geros, Pierre Frebault, Jean-Marius Raapoto, Lana Tetuanui and Tina Cross.
