Pactel International has launched a new 2.5G mobile network in Funafuti. To-date, the subscriber level on this network has exceeded all expectations. The existing network was damaged by a storm in 2007, leaving the island’s customers without mobile phone coverage. Pactel International was appointed by Tuvalu Telecom Corporation to install and operate a replacement mobile phone network to operate on the island. This has allowed the company’s customers to access normal mobile services at very competitive rates. Simeti Lopati, CEO of Tuvalu Telecom Corporation, expressed his pleasure in Pactel’s solution and its tailored ability to serve the needs of the people of Funafuti. “Tuvalu Telecom is grateful to Pactel International for the assistance it provided in restoring our mobile phone service. Despite a number of geographical and environmental challenges, Pactel International managed to design and install a GSM network solution, optimal to our needs. “This solution has noticeably improved Tuvalu Telecom’s services and financial situation. I believe this is a beginning of a long and mutually beneficial partnership with Pactel International, which will prosper into the future,” says Lopati. Pactel International was co-founded in 2003 by Andrew Taylor and Steffen Holzt, both with more than 20 years of experience in the satellite and telecommunications industry. Taylor worked in various commercial and engineering roles at PanAmSat, Comsyst, Optus, and Telstra, while Steffen started his career in satellite communications in the Pacific Islands. In 2000, he founded Pacific IP Services in New Caledonia, which merged into Pactel International. Pactel International focuses on satellite telecommunications and broadcast services within the Asia-Pacific Region. Company services include Internet backbone connectivity, VSAT data solutions, VOIP gateways, broadcast and streaming video solutions, international private leased line, equipment hosting as well as satellite ground system and network design. The company’s focus is on high quality, customised and affordable solutions for telecommunications carriers, ISPs, government organisations, mining, oil and gas industries, broadcasters and businesses that have a need for dedicated solutions to meet their connectivity challenges. Pactel International is committed to the highest level of customer service.
