Top destination

I would like to respond to your article printed on your December edition on Fiji as still the top destination.

It may be statistically true based on the Travel Magazine. But I don’t believe it is going to continue to be.

I am waiting to find out when businesses will begin to sell their shares off to local people and move on to other destinations like Samoa. I toured both islands and I must be honest with you that I enjoyed my time in Samoa with the warmth of the local people.

In Fiji, I was told to be careful and be cautious. I was confronted by two military officers who demanded to see my passport. I cut my holiday short and boarded a flight from Nadi to Auckland, New Zealand.
Fiji is beautiful but there has to be a government to set the rules and regulations to govern the people and to protect the tourists. As an American citizen, I urge other Americans not to go to Fiji until matters are settled.

Royal addition

I refer to your November edition of “Whispers” column, under the heading “The Royal Addition”.

Your continued unprovoked attack on His Majesty King Siaosi Tupou V cannot continue unchallenged, particularly where this contains major factual errors. Why you wish to harp on about His Majesty’s choice of pets is beyond me.

However, allow me to correct your errors. The dog is actually a Jack Russell Terrier, not a Pit Bull Terrier as reported. His name is PIP, and not PIT as reported. The bar is called “PIP’s Bar” and not PIT Bar as reported.
I was fortunate enough to be present at the opening of PIP’s Bar.
