Business: THE FUTURE FOR BUSINESS IN PNG
Datec brings new ideas, new technologies

Until now, Papua New Guinean businesses and statutory organisations competing in the global economy have sought world’s best business practice, cutting-edge technology and up-to-date information sources from Australia and further a field.

Tony Westaway... new ideas, new technologies.
In a boon for local business and for PNG, the first-ever Datec Technology Expo on October 11 to 13 at the Crowne Plaza Port Moresby will turn that paradigm upside down.

The Datec Technology Expo is bringing together everything technological to create PNG’s largest and most dynamic IT exhibition.

Most exhibitors will arrive from overseas and bring a number of business associates for the expo.

There are many local companies located around the country that will also descend on Port Moresby to take advantage of what the expo has to offer for their particular requirements.

Datec CEO, Tony Westaway believes that one of the primary obligations of the company is to continually bring new ideas and new technology to Papua New Guinea and he has set out to achieve this goal by partnering with leading global organisations to produce the Datec Technology Expo.

“There is a great thirst for knowledge in PNG and this expo will provide the opportunity for business people, IT specialists and most importantly, students to see the most recent developments in Information & Communication Technology,” said Westaway.

Datec has partnerships with many of the world’s leading ICT solution providers including IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, Cisco, Canon, Powerware, Diebold, Argent and Pronto, to name a few. Datec is undoubtedly the leader in the field of delivering IT services in Papua New Guinea. If you wish to engage with IT in PNG, you need to talk to Datec.

To-date, more than 35 international companies have registered to exhibit their latest products and services in the field of Information and Communication. Many of those global names will be conducting invaluable seminars and workshops suitable for the business community. The seminars are open to all delegates and will provide a platform for co-operative learning, sharing information and raising the profile of products and exhibitor organisations.

This then allows delegates and exhibitors to select the best possible technology solutions and the best possible business partners for the Papua New Guinea market place and its unique operating conditions.

The seminars cover a range of topics including technical issues and practical applications.

A comprehensive list of seminars will be published in advance. Business leaders and managers are encouraged to attend any or all sessions that apply to their situation.

Austrade is a primary supporter of the Datec Technology Expo and there is no doubt that with its connections, a range of new business opportunities will open up—from finding new customers, new distributors, increasing awareness and interest in what you have to offer.

For exhibitors, the expo offers a unique opportunity of bringing together owners, directors and key decision-makers of both small and large organisations across PNG.Plus the chance to meet potential new customers who are actively seeking new ideas and new technologies. For some exhibitors, there is potential to set up new trade alliances in terms of distribution channels and addressing new markets.

“The business community in Papua New Guinea is generally quick to adapt to new technology and we feel that the more that people are exposed to such technology, the more opportunity there is for increasing economic growth in this great nation,” added Westaway.

Business people in particular are encouraged to attend the Corporate Day on Friday October 12.

There will be information sessions provided on that day by various IT partners of Datec. These sessions will provide an insight as to how IT services can deliver positive business outcomes and contribute to the bottom line performance.

There will be a number of new or improved products which will be unveiled for the first time at this expo.

“Most of those will remain under close guard until then, although we can reveal that one of the products to be launched will revolutionise payroll services in PNG and take the ‘headaches’ away from Payroll Managers and HR Managers alike,” said Westaway.

Taking up all the four ballrooms of the world-class Crowne Plaza Port Moresby, the expo and primary accommodation option is conveniently located just 15 minutes from Jackson’s International Airport.

The hotel is contemporary in its design and captures the rich vibrant indigenous culture of PNG, while the Datec Technology Expo shines a light on the future of global commerce for PNG business.
