Polynesian spearhead group?
AS A POLYNESIAN OF SIKAIANA ATOLLS IN THE SOLOMON ISLANDS, A QUEStion that always comes to mind is: “Is it not possible for all Polynesian Islanders or countries in the South Pacific region to form a Polynesian Spearhead Group?
The main reason is that Polynesians all over the world speak similar languages and the same with their cultures, etc. There are significant issues which affect Polynesians and not Melanesians.
Geographically, most of the Polynesian people inhabit atolls currently threatened by man-made disasters. This is a top priority issue which is negatively responded to by the Solomon Islands Government today. I suggest that all Polynesian Islands should have a common understanding of their cultures and dialects, especially their history.
I would also suggest that chiefs and elders of different Polynesian Islands should travel and visit all big and small Polynesian islands to look and learn about their livelihood and how they are being affected by climate change. I would appeal to all leaders of Polynesian Islands in the South Pacific region that if you agree, please let us start now. —John Tepala Russell Islands SOLOMON ISLANDS
HIV stigma
LET US CHANGE THE MINDSET OF PAPUA NEW GUINEANS; HIV/AIDS IS just like any other disease. A person will NOT die once he or she has contracted the virus. The person will still live! Life goes on. A lot still needs to be done in relation to treatment. But the good news is that we have treatment in the country which helps restore the immune system for the person to live longer.
As mere humans, let us not be the judge of our fellow human beings and accept humanity. Let’s face it...we all will die one day; we just have to appreciate life as we live it.
—Darryl Raka PAPUA NEW GUINEA
