Telecommunications/PITA: PAQCLINK LINKS FINTEL, ALVIRON ON KIDANET

Internet services from Fiji’s newest ISP Kidanet is being delivered to Fiji consumers via Paclink’s WiMAX solution, after Paclink was chosen as systems integrator by FINTEL, Kidanet’s parent company.

FINTEL is Fiji’s international carrier and has exclusive rights to provide international telecommunication services in Fiji, which is assisted in a large part through its connection to the Southern Cross Cable Network.

FINTEL announced late last year that it is entering the growing Internet provision market by setting up Kidanet.

After a lengthy evaluation of technologies, FINTEL chose BreezeMAX, an award winning WiMAX-certified platform from Tel Aviv-based Alvarion Ltd, a global provider of wireless broadband solutions and specialised mobile networks.

BreezeMAX is being distributed in the Pacific region by Sydney-based Alvarion partner Paclink who will also be responsible for systems integration, installations and support.

“Paclink is widely known in the Pacific and has done many installations throughout the region,” said FINTEL in a statement on Kidanet’s chosen technology.

Designed from the ground up according to the IEEE 802.16 standards, BreezeMAX uses OFDM technology for advanced non-line-of-sight (NLOS) functionality.

“Paclink’s WiMAX solution was chosen for its robustness, mobility, adaptability to the operating environment and high performance in bringing NLOS to customers,” said Paclink’s case study on the Kidanet project.

Jone Wesele, Commercial and Business Development Manager for FINTEL said the company is pleased to be able to bring the 4G services of WiMAX to the Fiji islands.

“As a complement to our existing fibre and satellite networks, BreezeMAX has proven to be ideal for our islands terrain. It’s a robust, ruggedised system with exceptionally high performance for our non-line-of-sight environment and meets the demanding bandwidth and service requirements of our busy tourist industry.”
Kidanet is currently being tested and is scheduled for roll out soon.
